Summary

Stratus is seeking an experienced and strategic Total Rewards Manager to lead the design, implementation, and administration of our compensation, payroll, benefits, wellness and HRIS functions. In this pivotal role, the Manager be instrumental in shaping an employee experience that attracts, retains, and motivates top talent. They will partner closely with leadership to ensure our total rewards philosophy and practices align with our business goals and foster a culture where employees feel valued and rewarded.

This leader will oversee payroll processing through a third-party administrator, collaborate with a benefits advisor to administer health and welfare benefit and retirement plans, manage compensation programs ensuring competitive and compliant administration and manage the HRIS. They will lead the Total Rewards team and report directly to VP, People & Culture.

Location: While we are considering remote candidates, our preference is for a hybrid candidate based out of either our Mentor, OH, Chicago, IL, or San Antonio, TX office locations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key thought partner to the VP of People & Culture and organizational leaders on all aspects of total rewards strategy and administration.
  • Oversee the design, administration, and evolution of our compensation programs, including base pay, variable pay structures, and annual salary review cycles.
  • Conduct routine market pricing exercises and job analysis to ensure competitive pay practices and maintain an updated job framework in line with market conditions and regulations.
  • Evaluate and enhance our overall Total Rewards offerings, including health and 401(k) benefits, tuition reimbursement, and other perks.
  • Manage the administration of all employee benefit programs (health, life, disability, retirement plans, leave policies, wellness initiatives).
  • Identify and recommend creative, market-competitive health benefit options that align with attracting and retaining top talent.
  • Lead vendor negotiations and evaluation processes to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize service delivery.
  • Oversee major benefit events, including annual open enrollment, renewals, and wellness screenings, coordinate employee education sessions.
  • Ensure all compensation and benefits plans and policies are fully compliant with federal, state, and local regulations including but not limited to COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, ACA.
  • Oversee accurate and timely completion of 401(k) audit, ACA reporting, and 5500 filings for 401(k) and health benefits.
  • Develop and manage impactful employee recognition programs that enhance the overall employee work experience and support our culture.
  • Explore and champion learning and development opportunities that align with organizational goals.
  • Support acquisitions through integrating benefits, compensation, payroll, and HR systems.
  • Oversee HR system administration including data organization, data integrity and reporting.
  • Provide direct supervision and guidance to total rewards team members including overseeing their duties related to benefits and compensation administration and financial conciliation.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related field preferred
  • One of more of the following certifications preferred: CEBS, CCP, CBP, S/PHR (HRCI), (S)CP (SHRM)
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in compensation, benefits, payroll and/or HRIS with a proven track record of working at both strategic and administrative levels.
  • 2+ years of experience leading and developing total rewards employees preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Total Rewards integration during mergers, acquisitions, and organizational transitions is preferred.

  • Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now system is a plus.
