OpSource Pro has partnered with a civil construction company in Columbia, SC.

Pay for the position:

$100 - $120k/yr. DOE

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The superintendent for the grading division directs all field personnel on a given project, takes
responsibility for all safety and production goals for the project.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To guide all field activities on projects while adhering to all company policies and OSHA /
  • MSHA regulations, while meeting all safety, quality and schedule goals.
  • Main Activities
  • Build a team atmosphere to allow all foreman and operators to thrive and succeed.
  • Manage several foreman / lead men on separate projects and provide them with the tools,
  • equipment and technical support they need
  • Manage several projects in varying locations throughout the Southeast.
  • Attend meetings with the client
  • Attend pre-con meetings
  • Work with Project Engineer to ensure materials are submitted, approved and delivered on time
  • Work with Project Engineer to ensure layout is correct and performed ahead of time
  • Schedule equipment delivery
  • Schedule meetings with engineers and owners
  • Maintain all erosion control inspections and ensure compliance
  • Communicate scope, details and schedule with the foremen
  • Random on site safety inspections
  • Management production requirements as set forth in the project schedules
  • Assist in training new hires and existing personnel
  • Assist in recruiting and screening new employees
  • Assist in safety meetings
  • Communicate project billing information to the office for timely invoicing
  • Communicate project time sheets to the office for payroll
  • Maintain a project file of fuel sheets, load count sheets, hourly work, change order requests, and all applicable materials lists
  • Schedule and order necessary construction materials
  • Maintain MSHA compliance on projects
  • Check the on site MSHA binder for compliance
  • Ensure foremen / lead men have all MSHA paperwork, organized and up to date
  • Random inspections of vehicles, equipment and projects
  • Attend all required MSHA training
  • Maintain all expense reports credit card receipts, coded correctly and turned in weekly
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times
  • Maintain company vehicle

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas or be willing to learn:
Equipment operation and maintenance
Equipment safety
MSHA regulations
OSHA regulations
Site specific hazards and conditions
General site preparation techniques and procedures
Knowledge of operation of front end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, and other pieces of heavy equipment
Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage
Knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques
Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demands:
The superintendent position is a physically strenuous and mentally demanding job. He/she will
be lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects, from time to time. The project
manager will have to work in all weather, and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold.
The person must ensure that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way.

Environmental Conditions:
The superintendent must work outside in all different weather conditions including
extreme cold and extreme heat. He/she may at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic
substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and
infection.

Sensory Demands:
He/she may at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary

Mental Demands:
The superintendent must work with the team and is expected to maintain a schedule
of work. Proper and efficient management of all projects is required. Any variation from these
means that lengthens the project not caused by unforeseen conditions is unacceptable. Any
problems or inconveniences may result in increased stress to complete tasks in a
limited time.

Bonus Requirements:
For the superintendent to be eligible for bonus compensation, the following stipulations apply:
The project manager must promote and work safely all day.
Project deadlines must be met, unless of:
Excessive inclement weather beyond the estimated allowance per project
Change orders

Company vehicle must only be used for company business
Maintain routine maintenance
