Job Description
The Whitney’s Academic Year Internship program offers a semester-long paid internship for undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited academic program. The internship is hybrid, with some onsite work. For Spring 2025, interns commit between 16–21 hours per week over 10–12 weeks for a total of 200 hours, depending on availability. The official program dates will span from February 3, 2025 through April 18, 2025. Interns are assigned to a specific department at the Museum for the duration of the internship.

Projects/work assignments The Interpretation and Research department is responsible for helping audiences understand the
work on view through a variety of interpretive materials and visitor engagement. The Teaching
Strategies intern will:
- Assist with research for upcoming special exhibitions and collection rotations, and visitor engagement strategy initiatives
- Help maintain and update the educator website and perform other ongoing communications with affiliate staff
- Help coordinate quality assurance for the schedule of tours and other in-gallery visitor engagement programs across multiple platforms
- Attend and support in-person and virtual enrichment programs and special events for educators, including field trips, book clubs, meetings, luncheons, events, and workshops
- Assist with production, recording, transcription, and archiving of exhibition walkthroughs, prep workshops, training programs, and other materials
- Observe tours and programs and contribute feedback and evaluation to docents, educators and teaching fellows
- Gather and record attendance statistics for tours and education programs
- Assist with production of updated Docent Program Handbook
Skills and qualifications looked for - Background in art history and contemporary art
- Attention to detail
- Strong interest in research and learning
- Interest in museum education and educational pedagogy
- Ideally has familiarity with WordPress or similar, Excel, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite
Outcomes - Gain deeper insight into museum education and educational pedagogy
- Learn approaches to training and evaluation,
- Develop skills for observing and giving feedback
- Build experience in research and archiving strategies and skills
Compensation Interns will be paid a stipend of $3000.
