We are seeking candidates for the position of Rail Vehicle & Equipment General Mechanic 3rd Class (0833) in our Rail Vehicle Maintenance Shops

Compensation Data

Pay Rate: $26/hr. (Increase to $28/hr . after 12 months)

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Performs basic repairs, inspection, cleaning, maintenance and other routine duties on rail vehicle electrical, pneumatic and mechanical equipment. Assists other mechanics as assigned.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES

  • To be proficient in the servicing and repair of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems; make unit replacements and adjustments on vehicles equipment.
  • Performs repairs under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Performs repair work incidental to Authority and State Inspections of vehicles as required by regulations; inspects lighting, windshield wipers, horns, glass, couplings, braking systems. Performs tests on vehicles, statically and dynamically.
  • Must be familiar with the use of all Rail shop equipment and tools relevant to the position, including but not limited lubrication, fluid levels and filters. Must be proficient in the placing and storing of railcars in the performance of related duties. Must be capable of reading manufacturers¡ electrical and logic diagrams as applied to rail car systems.
  • Typically works on energized equipment whether installed in rail cars or test fixtures/simulators. Other Duties and Responsibilities.
  • Properly uses and maintains Authority issued PPR as required and governed by Authority work rules to include track and roadway safety programs.
  • Loads bags of salt (wt. 100lbs.) on snow equipment.
  • Works outdoors in inclement weather. Subject to call during storms and emergencies. Performs snow removal tasks as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and assists other mechanics as assigned.
  • Capable of performing all duties of lower classifications.
  • Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical and/or Electromechanical Training or related Training at an accredited technical school or equivalent. In lieu of technical school training, documented practical experience in a related field may be substituted.
  • Must satisfactorily complete written qualification tests specific to this job description and recertification tests as required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete Authority training program specific to this job description. Must satisfactorily complete performance tests as required.
  • Must possess valid Driver's License.
  • Must meet the minimum requirements and be able to perform the duties of this position and lower classifications.
  • Must be physically capable of performing duties as described.
  • Must have PC experience within a Windows based environment. Required to successfully participate in SEPTA and manufacturer courses to maintain, improve, and enhance technical competence or certifications.
  • Must be able to obtain Tools pertinent to occupation and this job classification.
