This position will remain open until filled.

SUMMARY:

The Peer Recovery Coach provides peer coaching and support to community members who have completed substance abuse treatment and are returning home to their community. They will also provide support to community members who may still be active users but are thinking about going into substance use treatment and have not yet made the commitment to do so. The Peer Recovery Coach is highly supportive and assists their peer mentee in making choices related to establishing and implementing a recovery pathway that is individualized and self-directed. As a Coach, you will connect peers to recovery resources, professionals and non-professionals, that will support the individuals needs on their road to recovery. The Coach will also facilitate or lead recovery-oriented group activities as well as help peers make new friends and begin to build alternative social networks with other sober individuals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

The following duties and responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet business needs.

  • Actively promote recovery in the community and serve as first contact for individuals and concerned relatives for those not in recovery
  • Use motivational interviewing techniques to help individuals decide to seek substance use treatment
  • Provide support to individuals who are seeking support for their recovery
  • Provide recovery resource connection to peers who seek recovery support
  • Facilitate and lead recovery-oriented groups and events
  • Assist peers in healthy community building to support their recovery pathway
  • Document client participation in a timely and efficient manner that is consistent with tribal guidelines
  • Maintain all client information confidentially and securely
  • Uphold all ethical standards of a Peer Recovery Specialist and maintain appropriate boundaries with peers, including refraining from the creation of any dual relationships with a peer
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Commitment to a healthy way of life and continuous maintenance of a sober lifestyle
  • Obtain/Maintain Tribal and/or State licensure as a Peer Recovery Specialist, including fulfilling ongoing continuing education requirements
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality for all participants and their families
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work well within the existing team and government structure
  • Sensitive to Native American Culture
  • Must pass drug screen (UA) and a federal criminal background check in compliance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act and the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act
  • Valid drivers license and proof of insurability

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time with occasional amounts of standing or walking

REQUIRED TRAINING:

  • Native American Peer Recovery Services Training
  • Effectively Handling Harassment training
  • Any position-related training as determined by department manager

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed primarily in an office setting, but may include occasional outdoor activities
