Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Directs and rehearses various choirs, trains choirs in appropriate techniques and appreciation of sacred music. A strong faith life is important. Provides support as needed to volunteer directors of other choirs, or instrumental ensembles within First Church of Christ music ministry. Strong faith life Knowledge of on-site instruments and excellent keyboard ability. Knowledge of appropriate church music (classical, contemporary, folk, spiritual, gospel) and the role in supporting worship. Select appropriate instrumental and choral music in consultation with the Pastor based on sermon theme and scriptural references, including selection of hymns, and other musical responses. Works with Pastor and Families in the selection of appropriate music for weddings, funerals, memorial services. Oversees and schedules vendors in partnership with the Finance Manager for the repair and maintenance of musical equipment. Partner with Contemporary Worship Leader to implement musical arrangements for Combined Services. Ability to innovate and bring creativity while maintaining empathy and caring for choir members and staff. Partner with Music Committee to assist with the growth of the music ministry of the church. Administrative Responsibilities: Maintain weekly office hours on site as agreed upon with the Senior Pastor. Able to maintain ministry within the budgeted amount for the church fiscal year. Lead fund raising efforts for special programs where approved. Strong organizational, planning, scheduling, and execution skills. Strong communication skills oral and written. Coordination of Section Leaders, ensuring they are set up correctly with the church as W2 employees for proper payments to be remitted. Maintains performance at a high level. Participation in bi-weekly staff meetings on Wednesday afternoons. Qualifications/Educational Experience: 3-5 years’ experience as a combined church organist/conductor of multiple choirs (vocal, instrumental). Bachelor’s degree in music. We are currently looking for a Part-time organist/choir director. The position would begin in November. Aside from rehearsing for Sunday mornings, there is opportunity to earn extra money with weddings and funerals, with right of first refusal. Also, seasonal events (e.g., Advent, Lent, holidays).
