The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre is a renowned acting school located in New York City. Established in 1928, it is widely recognized for its rigorous training programs and its emphasis on the Meisner technique, developed by Sanford Meisner, one of its most famous teachers. The school offers a two-year certificate program, as well as summer and intensive workshops, focusing on various aspects of acting, including scene study, movement, voice, and improvisation.

The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre is seeking a punctual, discreet, and skilled Maintenance/Custodian for immediate hire to maintain a clean, safe, and well-functioning environment for our students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, excellent time management skills, and the ability to perform light handyman work.

Job Details

• Full Time, in-person, salaried position
• Location: 340 East 54th Street NY, NY 10022
• From $40,000 to $45,000

Key Responsibilities:

• Consistently arrive on time and complete cleaning and maintenance tasks within assigned schedules
• Maintain discretion when working in offices and classrooms, respecting the privacy of students and faculty
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, (such as fixing loose door knobs, repairing drywall, changing light bulbs, basic plumbing, electrical, and maintaining the boiler)
• Clean, sanitize, and maintain classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas to the highest standards
• Move furniture and equipment as needed, ensuring proper setup for events and classes
• Trash/recycling, snow removal
• Manage inventory and restock supplies in a timely manner
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations while maintaining a safe work environment
• Perform routine walkthroughs and be proactive about maintenance issues
• Communicate with administration on custodial priorities
• Prompt response time to emails/text messages/calls
• Occasional special events that may occur nights and/or weekends.

Requirements:

• Track record of punctuality and reliability in previous roles
• Experience in performing various handyman tasks and basic repairs
• Proficient in reading, speaking, and writing English
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in janitorial or custodial work
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment
• Physical ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Familiarity with Google Apps, specifically Google Calendar and Gmail
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Certificate of Fitness for Indoor Place of Assembly Safety Personnel (F-03)
• Certificate of Fitness for Fire and Emergency Drill Conduction (F-07)
• If you do not have the above certificates, The Neighborhood Playhouse will allow two weeks to take the test and provide cost and compensation for taking the tests.
