We are looking for a Food Safety Specialist that will be an integral member of the Quality Assurance team. You will work directly with the QA manager in modifying, implementing and maintaining our food safety programs and will be responsible for ensuring that we are following all regulatory guidelines. This position is based at our facility in Elk Grove Village, IL, with a schedule of 7am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Primarily responsible for positive release of finished products in the company
  • Active problem solving of floor issues that may come up on a daily basis, related to product fill weight, quality, appearance, documentation, traceability and other. When required, to be escalated to Quality Manager and other relevant personnel.
  • Review of documentation for the record-keeping practices of the company’s food safety and quality compliance programs.
  • Creation of certificates of analysis, and other quality related documents.
  • Tracking, monitoring, testing and inspecting all processes and protocols to ensure quality.
  • Assists in the development of all food safety related documentation to produce high-quality food products.
  • Maintains, reviews, and verifies various GMP, HACCP food quality systems and programs to ensure accuracy and compliance with The Spice House specifications.
  • Works with purchasing to qualify ingredients and suppliers. Review and maintain supplier food safety and certification as part of the Approved Supplier Program.
  • Conduct plant walkthroughs and audits to ensure compliance and identify deviations.
  • Conduct Pre-operational and Post-Operational inspections and swabbing as required.
  • Place product on hold as per HACCP and/or Food Safety plans when a deviation occurs.
  • Assists in approval and maintenance of SOPs in collaboration with Production, Purchasing, and Warehouse teams.
  • Ensure the company’s compliance to established Food Safety and Quality System and be able to help the department as assigned by QA Manager.
  • Working in collaboration with the company’s various departments such as Product Development, Production, Purchasing Departments

Requirements:
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Science, Food or Manufacturing, and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience in Quality Assurance / Quality Control in the food industry or pharmaceutical industry
  • HACCP & PCQI certification preferred
  • Must be able to multitask effectively and work well in a team environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of food safety and quality programs.
  • Proficiency in a standard laboratory setting, including completing routine food analysis, reading/writing SOPs, and analyzing and interpreting results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled in interpreting data and documents to create synthesized SOPs.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check as a condition of employment.
  • A passion for food & flavor required.

Reports to: Quality Assurance Manager

Position Type: This is an hourly, non-exempt, full time position.

Employees must be at the assigned station at the start of the shift.
