Job Description

General Summary:

The Driver Supervisor is primarily responsible for the productivity and attainment of daily operational goals within his/her assigned functional area of delivery in utilizing approximately 10 to 15 delivery drivers. This position will work in conjunction with operations and customer service in a continuous improvement culture dedicated to safety and quality initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Recruit, train, and assess drivers and their qualifications.
  • Develop amiable, genuine and supportive relations with drivers on a professional level.
  • Act as an advocate for drivers while collaborating with other departments to solve driver problems.
  • Foster an atmosphere where safety is a priority with an emphasis on protecting customer property and company assets.
  • Ensure successful delivery of loads to internal or external customers within company defined timelines.
  • Performance management and design individual development plans of direct reports, disciplinary action, employee relation issues and resolution.
  • Monitors and ensures all team members are performing their functions safely and productively. Makes recommendations to prevent accidents or Hours of Service issues.
  • Utilize available tools (TMS, GPS, etc.) to evaluate and identify routing or manpower efficiency opportunities.
  • Consistent follow up thru route rides to ensure that company and delivery standards are met and in line with quality assurance/control.
  • Work with the DOT Compliance Coordinator to ensure truck fleet and drivers are DOT compliant
  • Monitor driver logs to ensure proper recordings and assist drivers with any technical issues. (On duty/off duty records, scheduled breaks, hour resets etc.)
  • Responsible for developing staff to improve performance and job satisfaction.
  • Tracking the key performance indicators, implement improvements to reduce total delivered cost and foster a continuous improvement culture.
  • Thorough ability to apply, coach and train others on company principles, policies and procedures.
  • Partner with the warehouse teams to ensure daily reconciliation of on truck inventory and minimized product loss.
  • Ensure all delivery agents and delivery asset comply with all FMCSA rules and regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal, State, Local regulations and Company policies and procedures. Communicates issues and updates to maintain compliance.
  • Participates in the maintenance of DOT requirements. Ensures accuracy, legibility, and completeness of all files and reports.
  • Monitors and ensures all drivers are performing their functions safely and productively. Makes recommendations to prevent accidents or Hours of Service issues.
  • Responsible for the completion of any special projects or the assignment of other duties as requested by management.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of transportation supervisory experience.
  • Must have valid driver’s license. Class A CDL with tanker experience is a plus.
  • Expert knowledge of ground transportation operations including DOT regulations is essential, and knowledge of on-board truck computer system helpful.
  • Knowledge of ELDs and safety software. Samara experience a plus.
  • Past experience utilizing Transportation Management Solution preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time in the designated region.
  • Must have highly developed leadership, management, communication (written & verbal) skills.
  • Knowledge of ground transportation operations including DOT regulations is essential, and knowledge of on-board truck computer systems helpful.

  • Responsive to the needs of internal and external customers with a sense of urgency and commitment to follow up.
  • Solid customer experience skills and ability to build value-added relationships.
  • Advance computer skills with proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc. previous sophisticated ERP system experience preferred.

Working Environment:

The work of this position is performed in a controlled office environment. This position requires the ability to work under pressure and communicate with a diverse population including other employees, customers, vendors, etc. This position also requires prolonged periods of sitting in a regular seated position as well as the use of general office equipment including phones, printers, computers, mouse, keyboard, etc.
