The Town of Brewster seeks qualified applicants for the position of Local Building Inspector. This position is responsible for administrative, technical, and inspection work related to the enforcement and interpretation of the MA State Building Code, Brewster Zoning Bylaws, and other applicable regulations.
Duties include but are not limited to; review and approval building permit applications, building plan and construction document review, inspection of buildings under construction to ensure compliance with national and state building codes and Brewster Zoning Bylaws. Occasional duties also include the investigation of complaints of the MA building code, zoning violations, working without the benefit of a building permit, and issuing stop work orders. The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively with all constituents, including design professionals, contractors and residents, department heads, staff, and various local officials.
Associates’ degree in a field related to building construction or design, or master craftsman-level of building construction trades knowledge, with a minimum of five years of prior work experience in the supervision of building construction or design, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. MA Construction Supervisor License required, and a Local Building Inspector Certification preferred (or the ability to attain Local Inspector Certification within 12 months of hire). This is a full-time, 40 hour a week position, covered under the Town’s Personnel Bylaw agreement with a starting pay range of $36.25- $40.80 per hour, starting pay dependent on qualifications and experience.
