Biomedical or Mechanical Modeling Intern (Summer 2025)

An internship is a temporary position within Solventum. Interns typically work a full-time schedule throughout a 10-12 week assignment during the summer of 2025. This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year.

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Biomedical or Mechanical Modeling Intern, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Developing accurate and reliable models to help improve understanding of how medical device products interact with humans and patients
• Building and leveraging predictive models to use in medical device development
• Collaborating across R&D to drive projects and influence uptake of simulations
• Integrating simulations with machine learning as applicable to achieve desired outputs of models

Your Skills and Expertise

 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, Solventum requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a doctoral degree from an accredited institution in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or related discipline with a focus on modeling & simulation.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Experience with FEA and/or CFD methodologies in healthcare relevant applications
• Experience scripting (R, Python, Golang, shell) and automating simulations
• Strong scientific and technical acumen, with demonstrated interest and ability to make connections between science/technology and real-world concerns
• Leadership qualities such as excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation), networking skills, self-motivation, and self-direction.
• Developing and refining models, to improve the accuracy and efficiency of simulations thereby enabling better predictions and evaluations for various applications

Work location:

Hybrid: Location Maplewood, MN 2-3 days/weeks

Applicable to US Applicants Only: The expected compensation range for this position is $44.00 - $46.00 per hour, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (e.g., Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.) after 90 days employment.
